The Purpose of Life...
Note: This is an outline I did as part of my "work". Completed on 23 Jan 2009. Just thought i share it on my blog.
The Purpose of Life
Intro
The purpose of life is about God not about us
Meaning in life comes from living for the purpose of our existence
Living life to the fullest is living for all the purposes that God has for us, since we were created by God for God and life is about only the purposes God has for us nothing more.
The purpose of life defines what we will do with our lives and we can focus on it with all our passion and strength.
God sets in our hearts what He wants us to do.
There is more to life than the here and now and life’s purposes prepare us for eternity.
Our purpose is to bring glory to God.
Body
Purpose 1# Worship
Our lives as a gift to God
Involves - Loving God
- Obeying God
- Trusting God
- Giving thanks to God
- Using our abilities for God (enjoying life and using our talents and gifts and doing the work of God)…basically doing everything that humans do, like eating and sleeping as doing it for the Lord.
Doing everything as if it were for God is worship.
Having an intimate relationship with God and living a surrendered life.
Purpose 2# Fellowship
Being a part of the body of Christ
To love God and others
Having a Church family
Sharing Life experiences
Belonging to Community
Purpose 3# Discipleship
Spiritual growth
God’s word and prayer
Circumstances/ troubles and people
Temptations
Life experiences
Purpose 4# Mission
Contributing and making a difference
Serving God and others
Significance in Service
Commanded to serve out of love and gratitude to what the Lord has done for us
Using our gifts, passion, experiences, abilities and personality to serve God
Following our heart (hopes, desires, interests, ambitions and dreams)
Doing what God wants us to do by doing what we can do for God
Being a servant of God
Made perfect in weakness
Purpose 5# Evangelism
The Great Commission
Impact of sharing the good news with others who may not know Him is of eternal significance and is meaningful use of our lives
There would be little need for our lives if everyone was saved, so it is clear that we have been put here on earth to save the others
Doing God’s agenda for our lives is the way to live and in doing His work He will bless us as it brings glory to Him when we do what God wills us to do.
Our testimony is the greatest way to be a witness for Christ
We should ask ourselves how God can use us to do His work
We need to be others’ centred and have a global and eternal mentality
Conclusion
Something to live for – God’s glory
We need to find a balance in life that allows us to fulfil each of the purposes God has for our lives everyday of our lives
We can make the choice to live for all the purposes that God put us here for and pray for the desire and passion to live for God’s glory
Best and only way is to live for God’s glory as only in Him can we truly find joy and fulfilment
A LIFE LIVED TO THE FULLEST IS A LIFE LIVED FOR GOD
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” Matthew 16:25
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” Psalms 37:4
Live for the purpose of your life today for there is no other way
All we have to do is to do our best to bring glory to God and leave the rest to God
